Meet Tommy Donovan: The Essex Warhorse
Get to know The Essex Warhorse, his boxing career and how he balances life in the ring while running Tubeline.
Following the announcement of Tommy “The Essex Warhorse” Donovan joining Team Universal as our next athlete partner, we wanted to find out a little more about his boxing career, his move to super-middleweight and how he balances boxing with his role as Managing Director at Tubeline.
Tommy has built his boxing career across the regional circuits in Essex and the South East, while also running Tubeline, one of Universal Tyres’ valued exclusive partners.
Tommy’s Boxing Journey:
Tommy has recorded 13 career wins from 17 fights during his boxing career.
Originally competing at heavyweight, Tommy became known for his tough, high-pressure style and ability to keep pushing through difficult fights.
One of his standout moments came in the Quest Boxing League, where he picked up the “Fight of the Night” award following his fight with Archie McManus.
Tommy has since made the decision to move down to the super-middleweight division, putting significant work into his fitness and conditioning as he prepares for a new chapter in his boxing career.
Life Outside the Ring:
Away from boxing, Tommy works alongside his father, Terry, running Tubeline, a family business with a long history in the tyre industry. As Managing Director, Tommy is involved in the day-to-day running of the business, supplying tyres, inner tubes and other related products to customers across the United Kingdom.
Balancing the demands of running a business alongside the training and preparation required for each fight keeps Tommy busy both inside and outside the ring.
Having worked closely with the Universal team through the business, bringing that relationship into boxing felt like a natural next step!
Speaking about joining Team Universal, Tommy said:
“I’ve worked with Universal through Tubeline for a while now, so it’s great to be able to take that relationship into boxing as well. I’m looking forward to representing Universal in the ring and giving everyone something to get behind. I’ve got some big goals for the next few years and I’m putting the work in to get there, so it’ll be great to have the Universal team behind me along the way.”
Universal Tyres CEO, Nathan Gould-Martin, added:
“We’ve worked closely with Tommy through Tubeline for some time now, so we know the kind of person he is and the commitment he puts into everything he does. When the opportunity came up to support him through his boxing, it felt like a natural fit. We’re really pleased to have Tommy as part of Team Universal and we’re looking forward to supporting him and following his progress in the ring.”
Tommy currently trains at OXO’S Gym, where he is preparing for his next fight on 26th September. With 13 career wins already under his belt, he’ll be looking to make it 14 as he continues his journey in the super-middleweight division.
We’re pleased to have Tommy representing Team Universal and look forward to supporting him as he continues his career, both inside and outside the ring!
